Last weekend we left Antwerp for the picturesque Dinant for a fun family outing. Our base? The charming Castel de Pont-à-Lesse , a beautiful hotel surrounded by nature. Perfect for a and relaxing stay in the Belgian Ardennes!

Day 1: Discovery tour in Dinant

Our first day started in the heart of Dinant, a city known for its beautiful location along the Meuse. Of course, a visit to the Citadel of Dinant could not be missed. We started with a lovely walk through the historical centre and then took the lift up to the citadel. Once at the top, we were rewarded with a breathtaking view of the city and the river. The history of the citadel was impressive, and we learned more about the strategic role that Dinant has played throughout the centuries.

After our visit to the citadel we decided to admire Dinant from the water and took a boat trip on the Meuse . This gave us a completely different perspective on the city and the surrounding nature. The combination of the impressive rock formations, the charming houses and the historical bridges made the experience complete.

Day 2: Castles and Nature

After a wonderful night at our hotel we headed out for a walk at Château de Walzin . This castle, towering dramatically over the Lesse river, gave us a fairytale feeling. The walking trail around the castle offered beautiful views and was ideal for a family day out.

We then stopped at the Château de Celles , a hidden gem in the region. This impressive building exudes history and elegance, and the tranquility surrounding the castle made it a great place to catch your breath.

Finally, we drove to Namen (Namur) , the capital of Wallonia. Here we strolled through the cozy streets, enjoyed a delicious lunch and admired the impressive Citadel of Namen. It was the perfect way to end our weekend away.

A Weekend to Remember

Our two-day trip to Dinant and surroundings was a fantastic mix of history, nature and relaxation. From the impressive citadel to the picturesque castles and the lively atmosphere of Namur – we thoroughly enjoyed everything this region has to offer. An absolute must for families looking for a versatile and adventurous getaway in Belgium!
